Check-Ups and Cleanings
Routine dental cleanings are an important part of maintaining good oral health. When paired with regular brushing and flossing, professional cleanings can help prevent plaque buildup, tooth decay, and other dental issues. Most patients should schedule a dental cleaning appointment every six months, during which one of our dentists will also perform an oral examination to ensure the teeth and gums are in good condition.
Oral Cancer Screening
Here at Gateway Village Dental, oral cancer screenings are a routine part of oral exams. It is a quick and painless examination of areas along your gums, tongue, and other soft tissues of the mouth to determine if there are any irregularities. Remember, oral cancer often does not exhibit any overt signs in its beginning stages, which makes it very important to have regular screenings (at least once each year for those who do not use tobacco products and twice each year for those who do).
Night Guards / Sports Guards
Night guards can have a significant impact on your quality of life, especially when associated with the correction of grinding or TMJ disorder to reduce migraine symptoms. To provide the necessary protection for your mouth, we offer night guards and mouth guards for your every need, whether your concerns are sports-related or caused by stress. In general, these oral appliances can:
- Prevent the destruction of teeth from unconscious grinding at night, which can also cause tooth sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures
- Prevent the wear and tear of your teeth, which can cause a patient to appear older than they actually are
- Protect dental restorations to help them last longer
- Protect teeth during periods of increased stress, which is when patients tend to grind their teeth more often
- Alleviate pain in a patient’s jaw joint and muscles, as well as reduce pain commonly associated with migraine headaches
Our dental-grade sports guards and night guards are custom-made to help you attain a more comfortable fit than the generic oral appliances found at drug stores and supermarkets.
